About Michael Laney Designs
Hello, my name is Michael Laney and I am an experienced graphic designer/marketer/project manager. I have over 35 years of solid, award-winning, creative graphic design experience. I have an Associate Degree in Advertising Design from Central Piedmont Community College, as well as a degree in Marketing Communications from Ashworth College. I was employed by CommScope, in Hickory, NC, for 30 years where I served in a variety of roles (as Graphic Designer, then Senior Graphic Designer in our corporate Creative Services group and more recently as a Graphic Designer/Website Administrator in the Digital Marketing Group). Prior to my tenure at CommScope, I worked as a Junior Graphic Designer at Johnson & Associates Marketing Communications, followed by Graphic Arts Department Manager at Carolina Printing of Hickory, Inc.
I am experienced in concept, design and production of a wide array of marketing communications materials (advertising, print, publications, digital marketing, large-scale trade show design, product packaging, video production and other multi-media). I am an expert-level user in both Adobe Creative Suite as well as Microsoft Office Suite and Movie Edit Pro.

I am a self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented person who is accustomed to working under strict deadlines and tight budgets. I excel at prioritizing projects and budgeting my time, and at the same time, be very cost-conscious — constantly seeking ways to save money wherever possible. In an industry where mistakes are costly and time is money, I have consistently exceeded expectations. My services are tailored for the small business owner as well as serving as a contract resource for larger companies.
Over the years, I have won numerous industry awards from PICA (Printing Industry of the Carolinas), PIA (Printing Industry of America), and American Graphic Design Awards (in conjunction with Graphic Design USA Magazine). I am a member of NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) and AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts - Charlotte, NC Chapter).
